Frequently Asked Questions!
What is Kinesiology?
Kinesiology was developed by Dr.Goodheart in 1964. Its basic tool is the muscle test, which is the ability of the client to hold a muscle against light pressure. It is a totally holistic approach that uses the neuromuscular response that is being tested rather than the strength of the muscle. It combines techniques from both Eastern and Western medicines.
Kinesiology is safe, non-invasive, and can help improve the health and happiness of everyone - from infants to the elderly - across a wide range of health issues.
What happens at the sessions?
During the session, I apply light pressure to test your muscles and thus detect any health imbalances by relating weakness in different muscles to different areas of your body. Once any problems have been identified I work to correct and rebalance your body with gentle massage, together with different structural and emotional techniques. I may recommend changes to lifestyle and/or diet.
Some people feel rejuvenated and relaxed after a session whilst others may feel a little tired.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions greatly depends both on the individual and how fully they engage with any suggested plans. Usually, the client requires three to six visits with a recommendation to have routine kinesiology sessions two or three times a year.
How does it really work?
In kinesiology, we test, detect, and balance.
To understand how the body communicates its needs we need to appreciate that muscles are related to organs through a bundle of nerve fibers via the spine. By applying light pressure against a muscle it will either hold or become “spongy”. If there are any imbalances the muscle will not hold against the pressure applied and becomes spongy.
The imbalances can be due to structural problems, lack of vitamins and minerals, stress or emotional trauma, or...electrical. Yes, electrical! We are all electrical beings and we are affected by electric and electromagnetic fields.
To resolve these imbalances we apply gentle pressure to acupuncture points, run energy meridians and massage neuro-lymphatic points (the lymph system), and consider nutrition, diet, digestion, and supplements. We look at whether emotions are involved and help alleviate emotional stress through Bach Flower Remedies or Phytobiophysics Flower Formulae and other emotional techniques.
As an example, consider a test on the supraspinatus muscle (which is related to the brain). If the muscle becomes spongy when applying light pressure, (or if a client is asked to think of a stressful situation while testing the supraspinatus), and it duly becomes spongy then this means that the stressful situation affects a client on a daily basis and is compromising the client’s health. We can rebalance the muscle by combining different techniques relevant to the muscle and the client. The muscle will also respond to different nutrition - L-Glutamine, B-Complex, essential oils, etc. - and on that basis, nutrition is recommended. Hence, kinesiology is unique and personal as it is relevant to the client at that time rather than just recommending vitamins and minerals based on general knowledge.
Kinesiology is, therefore, empowering and can help clients turn their lives around from feeling hopeless or helpless to find the emotional and physical strength to tackle the seemingly impossible with a healthy attitude whilst remaining relaxed and reaching vibrant health.
Kinesiology helps us to understand what is going on in your body and how best to support you for optimal health in a gentle manner.
